National History Day is a program developed to engage young people in the active learning of history.
- Through research, analysis, and critical thinking, students develop the ability to interpret history and see how people, places, ideas, and creations change the course of the future.
- The skills developed to do the research and share a perspective based on that research are transferable to many academic areas, not just social studies!
- Creating a project cultivates time management, presentation, communication, and planning skills; life skills for any individual.
- In today's world of vast and readily available media, having the ability to assess authenticity, credibility, and reliability is a necessity.
- The variety of medium options available (historical paper, documentary, website, performance, and website) allows a student to choose between highlighting a strength or exploring a new area as a challenge.
Creating a National History Day project not only teaches a student about a particular project in-depth, it develops a wide range of skills!
What to Expect During the Contest
Check-in will occur between 8:30 and 9:00am. All exhibits must be setup by 9:00am.
Judging will start at 9:00am and continue until 1:30pm.
Lunch is on us! You may enjoy a free buffet lunch in our dining hall (same building) - just let the attendant know you are here for Nebraska National History Day.
Exhibits should be taken down between 1:00 and 1:45pm.
Awards Ceremony will be at 2:00pm in the XXXX room. We will finish by 2:45pm so all students can depart back to their school.
The evaluations from the judges will be sent to the teachers by Monday, March 4.
Students that qualify for the state contest will be able to register by Monday, March 4. Your entry information will roll over to the state contest, ??????? you will need to confirm your participation
